Content of Lessons:
In Lesson 1, “Know Your Firm”, we will talk about the importance of becoming familiar with the specific promotion process and criteria that applies to you, and where to find this information.
In Lesson 2, “The Promotion Process”, we will address the procedures that firms often follow when evaluating candidates for partnership.
In Lesson 3, “The Formal Quantitative Factors”, we will discuss the measurable criteria that firms often rely on when evaluating candidates.
In Lesson 4, “The Formal Subjective Factors”, we will talk about the non-quantifiable criteria officially or expressly considered by firms.
In Lesson 5, “The Unspoken Factors”, we address other considerations that are not necessarily disclosed in the formal partnership guidance issued by firms.
In Lesson 6, “Things That Give You an Edge”, we shed light on traits that typically give attorneys an edge when they are being evaluated for a promotion.
In Lesson 7, “Things That Could Doom Your Candidacy”, we will discuss traits that could negatively affect at attorney’s partnership prospects.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This workshop was designed for non-partner U.S. attorneys who want to start preparing for a promotion.
Many firms employ a 3-year look back period when evaluating candidates, and some of the strategies we discuss in the course will take time to implement, so attorneys who are a few years away from a promotion will have more opportunities to implement the strategies discussed in the course.
However, attorneys closer to their promotion process can also benefit from the workshop, as some of the strategies and the self-assessment component of the workshop can be helpful at any stage of the process.
